The Sweetest Letter

I stumbled upon a letter written to me several years ago.  With approval, I've decided to share.  Ladies, men like this really do exist.  I hope you enjoy.

I’m sure by now you have realized there are only 5 lilies. Although flowers normally come in 3, 6, or 12, I chose 5 for a reason.

The white in an Oriental (Stargazer) Lily represents purity, and the pink or red represents prosperity. So I thought it was a pretty descriptive flower for you. You seem to me as a person about as pure in heart and mind as anyone I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And although spirits like ours may not always feel so, you have been prosperous. Through everything you have endured, you have managed to find your peace; you have your health, family and a beautiful daughter. So I would say you have prospered thus far.

These remarkable flowers have withstood the test of time. They date back through the Roman Empire as well as the Bible. The effects you have on people will stand time as well. Your beauty, as well as the flower, draws people toward it. And once they take it all in, the expression, the fragrance, the passion of it, after only one meeting, they remember it, and are enriched by the experience.

Now, as to why there are only 5. Men usually give women flowers more to appease than to please. There is often too little thought or feeling behind it. So I did this, not only to make you read this stupid letter to see why only five, but to show you not every guy just goes through the motions, but some actually do it because they care.

The first is for beauty. In nature, as well as with people, your first impression of anything begins with looks and appearance. You can’t help but admire the flowers beauty and texture. Same goes for you (beauty, not so much the texture ) And if one isn’t careful, they may find themselves staring, not glancing, at either the flowers or you. And a stargazer in bloom or a smile from you can change the entire ending to a person’s day.
The second is for the fragrance. A very unique fragrance, these lilies have. So much so, that people go through extraordinary lengths to grow and have these flowers. This reminds me of your mind. So at peace, with life, and just happy with yourself. Which is the first step to ever being happy with anything else. With every conversation, I find you to be an even deeper person than I thought previously. So deep, yet uncluttered. Stressed, yet manageable. And more intriguing by the day.

The third is for energy, endurance, and growth. Although these flowers bloom in warmth, they must mature in chilled weather in order to bud. They grow larger and stronger after every winter. This reminds me of your spirit. Kind, yet strong and tough. With every experience designed to break you down, you just lick your wounds and come back stronger than you were before.

The fourth is for sweetness. The flowers are so amazing and wonderful that animals and birds try to eat the bulbs even in winter when the flower and plant lie dormant. Even if they get a piece of the flower or the bulb, the lily is undeterred and grows back. This reminds me of your personality. Although you have endured a few rough winters, you always bounce back with that young, enthusiastic beauty and do not harbor ill-will or distaste, but instead embrace it and incorporate it all into which you are.

The fifth flower is just a gift from me to you. To let you know that although some guys don’t seem to know what they have (for whatever crazy reason) that not all people want to take a piece of you without giving back. Or even take a piece of you at all. That some people just appreciate being in your presence, your warmth. That when they open a door for you, buy you lunch, write you a little note, or buy you five flowers, they are just saying thank you for being you. For being so kind, witty, adorable, sweet and beautiful all at once, without ever saying or doing anything.
Although I only delivered five flowers, there are six there. You are the sixth. A man can’t help but notice when you enter a room. He’s drawn, by your smile, by your aura, by your laugh, and yes, even your little snorts at Denny’s. And if he doesn’t acknowledge you right away, it’s because he’s taking you in. Beauty in nature can be very intimidating, very distracting. So don’t ever sell yourself short, don’t ever settle. Your beauty and uniqueness should be embraced and purely loved and enjoyed. Some things can be fake, but genuine perfection can’t be missed, overlooked, forgotten, or ignored. There are many pests and animals that want to try and destroy your roots, tear you down. Just keep coming back stronger and even more beautiful and you will eventually be above it all.

Merry Christmas! Hope your enjoyed this, because it was an absolute pleasure to write.

Sincerely,

Anonymous

  1. Sounds like this guy is a writer or poet. Sounds like he had a thing for you. What happened with him? And where can he be found?!?

  2. He's a great writer! I think maybe he had a slight interest. I expect him to return to my life as he will always be one of my most cherished friends. However, we do not decide who we'll fall in love with. It is the heart that completes that work.
